In my Place
• Series: First Importance
So Jesus died on a cross and rose from the dead. So what? What does it mean? Some within the Christian tradition believe Jesus died merely to set a good example of self-sacrifice for us. Others think that Jesus died to defeat Satan. Others think his death was simply to tell us how much God loves us. While there is truth in each of these claims, fundamentally, Jesus died as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. This message will focus on the phrase "for our sins." What we will see is that Jesus' death wasn't cosmic child abuse or evidence of a rageaholic God. No, Jesus' death is evidence of God's love for us. And what we will see, is that while our culture promotes "justice," the cross gives us the clearest picture of justice imaginable. In other words, our desire for justice is the result of being made in the image of a just God.
