Thousands of people died by crucifixion in the ancient world. Only one was said to come back to life. What led to this wide-spread belief? Some argue that people stole Jesus' body from the tomb. Others think the disciples experienced hallucinations or saw an apparition that they mistook for Jesus' physical body. This message will focus on the phrase "he was raised on the third day . . . and that he appeared to . . ." While this is a remarkable claim, we will consider the evidence for the empty tomb as well as his post-mortem appearances to his followers. We will consider how it was the earliest Christians' testimonies that got Christianity off the ground, and we will consider how we can use our own experiences with Jesus to spread the message of Jesus in our communities.
